7 Easy Tips to Outsmart the Instagram Algorithm (and go viral!)

Learn more about how you can make your content go viral on Instagram.

Let's discuss the Instagram algorithm.

First, the word "algorithm" shouldn't freak you out. I get it. Not everyone is a tech-savvy individual. And sometimes, such technical IT jargon is complex to explain.

However, allow me to break it down for you. In my TikTok algorithm post, I explained that an algorithm is a step-by-step solution for solving a problem.

Now. I hope this is out of the way.

Next, let's jump back to the IG algorithm.

As of 2021, Instagram remains the best platform for the advertising business. Compared to Facebook and Twitter, most marketers use Instagram to market their businesses.

A new entrant to the market – TikTok – is giving Instagram a run for its money. As such, Instagram has been forced to add new exciting features.

Over the years, Instagram has experienced a lot of changes. Do you remember when they changed their logo?

Besides the logo change, Instagram has changed from a chronological way of showing content. Instead, they have adopted the algorithmic method.

Understanding how Instagram's algorithm works allows you to explore limitless possibilities with the platform. You'll be able to create engaging pages with excellent organic traffic.

Let's dive in.

How the Instagram Algorithm Works

Instagram made quite the show from 2020- to -2021.

With the addition of insights, stories, and much more, it became quite challenging for content creators to crack the IG algorithm.

What's more, Instagram started hiding likes!

Typically, the goal of Instagram is to have more and more users. However, they're not just looking for any user.

They want a committed and loyal user who will spend more time on their platform. It seems like this is the goal of every social media platform in 2022.

Spending more time on Instagram means you'll see ads. The result: this generates profit for Instagram.

So, if you want to work with brands on Instagram, you'll need to keep up with the algorithm.

In 2022, Instagram knows it only takes seconds to like a post. However, sharing the post or saving it in your gallery takes longer.

This ultimately means creating enjoyable content your audience will love is in your best interest. Every content you create needs to be professional and clear to inspire or help your audience.

I know this sounds easier than done.

That said, I recommend following the tips below. They will put you on the right track to outsmarting the algorithm and have it reach a wider audience.

1. Have a Unique Voice

First, let me explain what it takes to go viral on Instagram in the next 10 seconds.

To hit the jackpot (go viral) on Instagram, you need to create content that spreads like a bushfire through the platform. Your content also needs to be shared by thousands of Instagram users.

This is why it pays to have a unique voice. Ask any Instagram user whose content went viral, and they'll tell you one thing: always post creative content.

Next, you want to combine all this with stunning images—the result equals a viral Instagram post.

2. Take Quality Photos

Instagram says that ranking higher in your followers' feed goes hand-in-hand with developing "exceptional content."

Sure, this sounds easy.

So, what constitutes "exceptional content?" Unfortunately, Instagram doesn't specifically say what and how.

But here's the cut: IG's most-liked and most-shared content is often visually appealing. Solid colors. Spectacular landscapes. The sort of content that gets Instagram users to stop scrolling and give a "Like."

Start by creating some professional visuals from time to time. High-quality photos will make you stand out even if your niche is boring.

3. The Instagram Algorithm Factors in Time

Time is a factor that cuts across all social media platforms.

Typically, the Instagram algorithm wants to show users the best and latest content. This means time is a factor you need to consider.

So, how do you do this?

Be keen on when most of your followers are online.

Posting your content during these times means they'll likely see and interact with it.

💡
For Instagram influencers, I recommend having an Instagram business account. It helps you evaluate the analytics that may factor into the Instagram algorithm.

4. Is Your Profile Complete?

This is a no-brainer. Ensure your profile is complete.

This gives your profile a legitimate aspect to it. Have you been avoiding filling that "About Me" section?

Sorry, but you'll have to fill it.

If you have a website, add the link in your bio. It's also best to link Instagram with your Facebook account.

Why?

You want to connect with your Facebook followers for more engagement. Finally, ensure the colours and theme on both platforms match.

5. Use more Emojis on Your Posts

This doesn't mean I've given you a ticket to overdo emojis.

Also, you're probably wondering who in their sane mind doesn't use emojis.

However, I know you're not aware emojis can help you go viral.

As humans, we process images faster than we process texts. This also explains the adage: a picture is worth a thousand words.

If you want to convey an emotion or feeling, use emojis. To increase the engagement in your post, add a few emojis.

However, ensure you understand an emoji before adding it to your post.

6. Post More Video Content

Instagram doesn't typically say that video is prioritized over pictures.

This is why I believe they're treated the same. When making videos, remember what I said earlier about visually appealing content.

Since your video auto-plays in your followers' feed, ensure it's engaging.

Whether your video is long or short, ensure any user who comes across it will stop and watch. Simple.

7. Be Consistent

Post content almost daily if you want to grow your account and beat the Instagram algorithm.

Being consistent gives your followers something to look forward to.

And to be honest, this isn't hard.

Taking a photo is as simple as pulling out your phone to capture any moment.

That doesn't sound like hard work. Sometimes, you don't even need new photos.

You can even outsmart the Instagram algorithm by reposting older images.

Wrapping It Up!

Using the tips above, you'll easily beat the Instagram algorithm.

But first, I recommend that you start using Reels. Reels have their section on the Explore page. Leverage this, and it can increase your Instagram growth in 2022.

Finally, remember to use hashtags.

Hashtags help the Instagram algorithm to categorize your content for other's Explore pages.
